Madison trial and appellate attorney Mullen Dowdal has joined the University of Wisconsin Law School full-time to teach and work on development of the Legal Research and Writing curriculum. Most recently, Dowdal has worked with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Madison for a number of years, and previously he practiced law with Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi in Minneapolis.

Dowdal is no stranger to the Law School: he has taught a legal writing course each semester for the last six years.

"We were lucky to persuade him to come with us full-time," said Professor Susan Steingass, director of the Communication and Advocacy Program of which Legal Research and Writing (LRW) is a major component.

Dowdal will teach in the first-year writing program and join lecturer Margaret Baumgartner in developing the first-year curriculum and creating writing assignments.

"We will also use his skills and experience in other areas," said Steingass, "such as advanced legal writing and merged substantive, writing and research programs. Based on his years of experience, he will be able to make an important contribution in substantive areas."
