The UW Law School Consumer Law Litigation Clinic will host a forum on payday lending on September 22, 2005, in Lubar Commons (Room 7200) of the Law School, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Joining the clinic as co-sponsors of the forum are the Consumer Federation of America and the Wisconsin Public Interest Research Group (WISPIRG).

Issues to be explored are:

– the history of payday lending in Wisconsin, including the regulatory response (both state and local)

– the impact of payday lending on Wisconsin communities

– litigation against payday loan companies

– legislative initiatives

– alternatives to payday loans for lower income consumers

Anyone who is interested may attend part or all of the day’s discussions.
