Law School assistant professor Asifa Quraishi has been selected by the Bascom Hill Society to deliver its November Faculty Showcase lecture. Quraishi will speak on "Islamic Law as Comparative Law: Thoughts of a Muslim Yankee Law Professor."

Quraishi’s talk to the group, at Memorial Union on November 15, will compare Islamic and American law, pointing out how the two legal systems are both similar and different.  She plans to weave this discussion together with a personal narrative of how she came to choose comparative and Islamic law as her field.

Membership in the Bascom Hill Society honors the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s major private donors. The mission of the Society is to provide a framework for UW alumni and friends whose support of the University is at the highest level, both to show the University’s appreciation and to involve them in the University community.

The group’s invitation to Assistant Professor Quraishi as she begins her second year of teaching is a noteworthy honor.

Quraishi received her B.A. from the University of California-Berkeley and her law degree from the University of California-Davis. She subsequently earned an LL.M. (master of laws) degree from Columbia Law School, and is completing an S.J.D. (doctorate of juridical science) from Harvard Law School.
