Diane Rosenfeld, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School Class of 1985, will give a talk and video presentation at the Law School Thursday, October 20, 2005 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Godfrey & Kahn Hall (Room 2260). Her documentary video, "Rape is ...", will be screened.
In her video and lecture, Rosenfeld questions underlying social structures that maintain a culture in which violence against women is tolerated. Her visit is part of UW-Madison Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Rosenfeld formerly served as the Senior Counsel to the Violence Against Women Office at the U.S. Department of Justice. In that capacity, she participated in the implementation of the Violence Against Women Act, both within the Department of Justice and in the various state and federal agencies that are concerned with translating the Act into effective programs. She also served for several years as a legal policy advisor to the Illinois Attorney General where her main areas of expertise were women's advocacy, environmental enforcement and professional responsibility of government lawyers.
She has co-taught a course on Advanced Environmental Enforcement at Harvard Law School, and taught Women and the Law for two years as an Adjunct Professor at the DePaul University College of Law.
Ms. Rosenfeld received her LL.M from Harvard Law School, J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School, and her B.A. from the University of Illinois.
