UW Law student Joel Plant 2L was named Madison’s first alcohol policy coordinator by Mayor Dave Cieslewicz in October 2005. Plant’s background includes a master’s degree in justice studies from Arizona State University in Tempe, and work with the Tempe police department as a researcher and statistical analyst.

“From the standpoint of being able to create my own position and write the job description, it’s really exciting,” Plant told Madison’s Capital Times reporter Judith Davidoff in an interview published October 22, 2005.
