Attorney Richard Hoffman, a partner at Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon LLP in Chicago, will speak on “Fighting Terrorism in the Courtroom” Wednesday, November 16, at 6 p.m. in Lubar Commons, Room 7200 of the UW Law School.
Hoffman will discuss the groundbreaking lawsuit Boim v. Quaranic Literacy Institute, brought by his firm, the first civil case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1992
against domestic enablers of terrorism.
The case resulted in one of the top 10 verdicts of 2004, according to Lawyer’s Weekly magazine. The $52 million jury verdict was trebled to $156 million against the defendants, including the U.S. publicity arm of Hamas, and the former military leader of Hamas, who was living in the Chicago area.
Co-sponsors of Hoffman’s presentation are University of Wisconsin Law School Mock Trial and Jewish Law Students Association.
