A comment written by Nic J. Eichenseer, a third-year student at the University of Wisconsin Law School, is featured on Professor Doug Berman's “Sentencing Law and Policy” blog. The comment, “Reasonable Doubt in the Rear-View Mirror: The Case for Booker/Blakely Retroactivity in the Federal System,” was published in the Wisconsin Law Review (Volume 2005, No. 4). The topic for the comment was inspired by Eichenseer’s experience working with clients at the Oxford Federal Prison through the Frank J. Remington Center clinical program.

Professor Berman is a nationally recognized expert and researcher on sentencing. His blog receives over 50,000 "hits" a month. Berman's work on the “Sentencing Law and Policy” blog, has been profiled in the Wall Street Journal, Legal Affairs magazine, Lawyers Weekly USA, Legal Times, Columbus Monthly, and in numerous other print and on-line publications. In addition, “Sentencing Law and Policy” has the distinction of being the first blog cited by the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Professor Berman’s blog is a clearinghouse for all things sentencing,” said Eichenseer. Eichenseer used Berman’s blog as a tool for research while writing his comment. Eichenseer appreciates the exposure his comment has received from Berman’s blog. Of the vast sentencing resources available on the blog, Eichenseer refers to his comment as only a “drop in the bucket.” He hopes his thoughts can be of some practical import to those looking for information about sentencing.
