"The Israeli Supreme Court: Architect of a Constitutional Revolution" will be the topic of a Law School talk on Thursday, February 9, 2006, by Chicago attorney Gil Soffer, a partner at Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP and former student of Chief Justice Aharon Barak at Harvard Law School.  Soffer’s lecture will begin at 6 p.m. in Lubar Commons (Room 7200 of the Law School).

The event, which is free and open to all, is jointly sponsored by the Jewish Law Students Association and the Wisconsin International Law Society.  A light supper will be provided.

Soffer will tell the story of the Israeli Supreme Court's accomplishment in changing the balance of power in Israeli government, developing a bill of rights where there was none before, and stepping directly into Israel's eternal fray over religious powers and freedoms -- all without a written constitution.
