Close to a hundred UW undergraduate and Law School students participated in the role of witnesses for simulated trials when the University of Wisconsin Law School’s Mock Trial organization hosted a regional competition the weekend of February 10-12, 2006, as part of the Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) national competition circuit. Members of the local bench and bar joined in to serve as judges.
Preliminary and semifinal rounds were held at the new Dane County Courthouse in Madison; the final round was held at the Law School.
Twenty-two teams from schools around the region participated in the competition. Winner of the final round was the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville; runner-up was the University of Iowa. Both teams will advance to the national TYLA finals, to be held in Dallas in March.
Other participating law schools included Marquette University, Drake University, St. Louis University, the University of Minnesota, University of Missouri (Columbia & Kansas City), Washington University in St. Louis, and William Mitchell College of Law, as well as the University of Wisconsin Law School.
