Professor Richard Monette, Director of the University of Wisconsin Law School’s Great Lakes Indian Law Center (GLILC), has been awarded a one-year renewable grant of $225,00 from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Bureau of Equity and Environmental Services. The funding will be used for a multi-faceted program in which the GLILC will partner with the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin and the American Indian Construction and Trades Association.

Elements of the program include conducting training sessions in Federal Indian Law for WisDOT staff, hosting a conference for tribal businesspeople and economic development experts in Federal and State Government, and developing a template for Indian businesses to be certified for the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program.

In announcing the award to the Law School community, Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development Kathryn Hendley said, "Congratulations to Professor Monette for his success in developing and securing funding for a project that exemplifies the philosophy of the Wisconsin Idea by building on a tradition of cooperation between the University, the State of Wisconsin, Tribal Economic Development staff, and the business community."
