More than 150 people participated in the University of Wisconsin Law School’s 17th annual Race Judicata on October 22, 2006, along a new on-campus route along the lakeshore path. The group braved a big hill, and the event was deemed a resounding success, despite an unexpected snowfall. The race brought in $3,500 in contributions, which will be used to fund summer positions at public law organizations.
Individual winners of the 5K race/walk were Kristen Kreple 3L for the women’s race and Dan Millikin 3L for the men’s race. This is the third consecutive year that Millikin has won first place.
First-year Group 9 won the award for the largest participating small group.
The Children’s Justice Project at the UW Law School won the award for the largest participating firm or organization.
Major sponsors of the race included the firms von Whyte, Hirschboek & Dudek; Balisle & Roberson; Hurley, Burish & Stanton; La Follette Godfrey & Kahn; Murphy Desmond; Stroud, Willink & Howard; Community Justice, Inc.; and Garvey, McNeil & McGillivray, as well as Sentry Foods, Capitol Centre Foods, Four Star Video Heaven, and Law School Professor Stewart Macaulay.
The annual race is sponsored by the Wisconsin Public Interest Law Foundation (UW-PILF), founded in 1983 as a student-run organization to raise grants for students interning in public interest law positions. One hundred percent of the proceeds of the race go to PILF grant recipients.
Organizations where recipients worked in summer 2006 included Midwest Environmental Advocates; Ayuda, Inc.; Consumer Protection; and ABC for Health.
