A joint presentation by Isthmus news editor Bill Lueders and Wisconsin Assistant Attorney General and former Deputy Chief of Police Cheri Maples ‘99 is scheduled for Thursday, February 22, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Law School’s Lubar Commons (Room 7200).

The topic will be Lueders’s new book, Cry Rape, which details the experience of a rape victim, known as Patty, who instead of being treated as a victim, was tried for obstruction of justice. Patty sued in federal court and ultimately was vindicated. Maples, among others in the Police Department, disbelieved the victim's report, but eventually came to believe a miscarriage of justice had occurred.

The presentation is free and open to the public.

"The story is compelling and enlightening," comments UW Law School Professor Jane Larson. "It illustrates how rape remains a crime that puts the victim who reports in further peril."
