The UW Law School’s Children’s Justice Project (CJP) will hold its debut conference in the "Faces of Advocacy" series March 16, 2007, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Lubar Commons, Room 7200 of the Law School.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is titled "Faces of Advocacy: A Multidisciplinary Look at Brain Development and Child Advocacy."
Guest speakers will be Judge Shelley J. Gaylord, Dane County Circuit Court ("Advocacy from the Bench") and Wendy Henderson, Wisconsin Council on Children and Families ("Juvenile Justice and Brain Development").
Also planned are two panel discussions, "Translating Research into Practice" and "Next Steps in Advocacy," the latter led by UW Law School Professor Emerita Marygold Melli.
The mission of the CJP’s annual conference is to create a cross-disciplinary dialogue for professionals and professionals-to-be about the rapidly changing research and best practices within the vast fields of child advocacy. This year’s topic, brain development, was selected to reflect the growing impact that this type of research is having in court systems, schools, and healthcare settings.
For planning purposes, registration is recommended for this free conference. For the midday Networking Lunch, registration is required, with a deadline of March 12. To register, contact one of the conference coordinators: Emily Gold at eegold@wisc.edu or Beth Stockbridge at stockbridge@wisc.edu.
For the program schedule, see the conference link on the CJP Web site at http://hosted.law.wisc.edu/cjp .
