More than 50 University of Wisconsin Law School students and faculty members participated in a forum on the evening of March 20, 2007, to address the topic "Shared Rights and Responsibilities in an Academic Community: Talking to Each Other about Controversial or Sensitive Material in the Classroom."
The forum was presented as part of the Law School faculty’s ongoing "Aardvark" series on teaching methods ("Because Teaching is Aardvark").
Panel members for the evening discussion were Professors Carin Clauss, Pilar Ossorio, and Cheryl Rosen Weston, who all spoke about their own strategies for teaching controversial and sensitive material and for creating a classroom environment that encourages student participation.
After the panel spoke, questions and comments were taken from the audience. Approximately 15 students and 15 professors contributed, with the emphasis on a problem-solving dialogue focused on the future.
The forum was organized by Law School Professors Jane Larson and Howard Erlanger.
