The 2007 Bridge Builders Diversity Award, newly established by the Mahadev Law Group LLC of Waunakee, Wisconsin, was presented to its first recipient in April 2007 at the Law School’s Legal Education Opportunities (LEO) Banquet.

Second-year law student Kanha Vuong received the honor in recognition of her work in furthering diversity efforts at the Law School by building connections between Hmong students and other groups.

UW Law School J.D. Advisor Nilesh Patel ‘02, principal attorney of the firm, created the award to recognize individuals who realize that diversity cannot exist in a vacuum. "Making diversity happen," Patel said, "requires people to find new ideas for furthering it, people to communicate new approaches, people from different groups to support diversity efforts outside of their own group, and lastly, people who gather the resources to make diversity initiatives happen."

Vuong is a native of Fresno, California, and daughter of Cambodian refugees. She will be working at Nichols Kaster & Anderson PLLP in Minneapolis during the summer of 2007.
