The University of Wisconsin Law School will host two events in April 2007 to celebrate Asian-American Awareness Month.

On Friday, April 20, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., an exhibit of Hmong art will be on display in the Law School atrium. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, is titled "Identity in Translation: Communicating the "Self" through Contemporary Hmong Arts."

Featured Hmong artists are Kou Vang, Seexeng Lee, and Muas Yaj. For more information, contact responsible_edu@yahoo.com.

On Tuesday, April 24, a "Pan Asia Celebration" for the Law School community will take place in the atrium and Godfrey & Kahn Hall (Room 2260) from 4 to 7 p.m.

Sponsored by the Law School’s Dean and East Asian Legal Studies Center, the event will feature Doua Thor, Executive Director of the South East Asian Resource Action Center of Washington, D.C. Ms. Thor will address the role of Asian Pacific Americans in American history and culture, and their contributions to American society.

A reception will follow, featuring appetizers from different regions of Asia. Cultural dances and performances will conclude the event on Boerner Plaza, weather permitting, or in Room 2260.

For more information on the Pan Asia Celebration, contact Lynn Thompson, lfthomp1@wisc.edu or Jini Rabas, jmrabas@wisc.edu.
