The annual Dean’s Cup competition between students of the UW Law School and School of Medicine and Public Health is under way. The month-long event raises contributions for local charities while fostering camaraderie between students of the two professional schools.

The Dean's Cup originated in 1995, when several students borrowed the idea from a similar competition held at the University of Miami. The UW students decided to add the distinctive Wisconsin element of a charitable component.

Dean's Cup events span the spectrum of competition, from basketball, golf and ultimate frisbee, to poker, chess and "bar trivia." The schools also compete in a blood drive through the American Red Cross, and raise money via a change drive and T-shirt sales to support charities such as the Rape Crisis Center, Domestic Violence Prevention, and the Early Childhood Learning Center.

Midway through the competition (September 19), the score stood at Law School 39, Med School 37.

Upcoming for the weeks of September 17 and 24 are darts and foosball, baking, soccer, bowling, ping-pong, spades, chess, tennis, basketball, and golf. A picnic finale scheduled for Saturday, October 6 will include a 5K run, dodgeball, arm-wrestling, and a tug of war.
