A free community party to celebrate the release of the short film "Body and Spirit: Healing Your Way" will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, at the Bayview Community Center, 601 Bay View in Madison.

The film, produced as a DVD in the Hmong language with English subtitles, was created to spread the word about health care options to members of the Hmong community.

The University of Wisconsin Law School’s Center for Patient Partnerships in conjunction with the Freedom Inc. Hmong Resource Center produced the DVD.  It features Hmong Americans from a variety of backgrounds -- shaman, nurse, patient and elder – in an effort to improve the health care experience for Hmong families.

The DVD will be distributed to Wisconsin libraries, health centers, social service agencies, and individual health care providers to enhance cultural competency and bridge cultural divides in health care delivery.

Funding for the DVD was contributed by The Evjue Foundation, American Cancer Society, Freedom Inc., the UW Law School, the Dane County Hmong community, and many individuals.
