Julie Skelton and Tim Hamer, two third-year University of Wisconsin Law School students, progressed to the level of semi-finalist in the Seventh Annual American Bar Association Law Student Tax Challenge in January 2008 in Las Vegas. In this national competition, students analyze a real-world transaction, put together client advice in a memorandum, and present it to a panel of judges acting as senior law firm partners.
Based on the strength of their written analysis, Skelton and Hamer were among six teams winning a trip to the competition. They were selected from a total of 70 competing teams representing 36 schools.
"This was quite an accomplishment," commented UW Law School Professor Allison Christians, who coached the team. Christians added, "I also want to thank Professors David Schwartz and Carin Clauss for selflessly giving of their time to listen to and offer comments on the students’ oral presentation."
