University of Wisconsin Law School Professor Cheryl Rosen Weston '71 has been honored with the 2008 Women of Distinction Award from the Madison YWCA.

The Women of Distinction Awards have been called "a Who’s Who in the movement for social justice." Previously, Law School Professors Martha (Meg) Gaines ‘83 and Marygold Shire Melli ‘50 received the honor.

Cheryl Rosen Weston, CEO of Douglas Stewart Co., is an attorney with Cullen, Weston, Pines & Bach as well as a UW law professor. In 2005, she was named Entrepreneurial Woman of the Year by the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners. She is a longtime board member and former president of Jewish Social Services of Madison, donates her legal services to the American Civil Liberties Union, and is a former president of A Fund for Women, which provides grants to women and girls in the Madison community to enhance education and employment.

The recipients of the award will be honored at the 34th annual Women of Distinction Luncheon on May 29, 2008, at the Madison Concourse Hotel. The awards luncheon is the YWCA’s largest annual fund-raising event. More than 750 people attended last year.
