University of Wisconsin Law School students Rufino Gaytan and Paul Manrique were named National Semi-Finalists at the Hispanic National Bar Association’s 13th Annual Mid-Year Conference and National Moot Court Competition in New York City on March 13-14, 2008.

Gaytan also won First Place for Oral Advocacy (Male) at the same competition.

Gaytan and Manrique are members of the Moot Court Team of the UW Law School’s Latino/a Law Student Association (LLSA). Twenty-two teams competed in the event.

The competition focused on the theme "Latinos on Wall Street: Shaping America's Future Through Law and Finance." Focusing on the breadth of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, the competition tested students' legal analysis, research, writing and oral presentation skills in a mock U.S. Supreme Court setting.
