The University of Wisconsin Law School Mock Program is completing the 2007-08 year with an increasingly wide variety of competitions under its belt and high-level recognition in national competitions.

In Spring 2008, two UW teams advanced to semi-final rounds. In the nationally prominent TYLA competition (Texas Young Lawyers Association), held this year in Kansas City, Wisconsin’s team of Chiji Offor, Dan Sperling, and Jonathan Parker advanced to the semi-finals. The Wisconsin team of Andrew Rima, Connor Sabatino, John Gentry and Maggie Hogan advanced to the semi-finals of the AAJ (American Association for Justice) in Chicago.

The Fall 2007 teams from Wisconsin competed in the Buffalo-Niagara Mock Trial Competition in Buffalo, New York, as well as the invitation-only National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) competition in Key West, Florida, where the UW team placed fifth among all competing teams. The award for Best Closing Argument went to UW Law School third-year student Scott Jess.

Coaches for the teams were Susan Steingass, Director of the Law School’s Mock Trial Program, Rhonda Lanford, Ellen Berz, Mullen Dowdal, and Bill Nelson.

Adam Loomans 3L, UW Mock Trial President, commented, "Great job to the UW Mock Trial Team, whose steady diet of hard work and competitive zeal has paid off in unprecedented success. Thank you to everyone who supported the Team this year – especially our coaches. We look forward to further success next year!"
