Professor Michael Scott and his students in the University of Wisconsin Law School seminar "Selected Problems in Policing" were interviewed on Thursday, April 24, 2008, by Channel 15 television in Madison (WMTV) for a Special Report to run on the 6 p.m. news on May 15.

The segment will be part of a series on issues of homeless people in Madison. This year Scott has structured the seminar so that the entire class is studying a range of issues and problems that police and prosecutors confront in connection with homeless and/or street people.

Viewers of the channel’s evening news may see Scott speaking with a reporter about crime and urban design. Scott notes that a topic he discussed in the TV interview was crime prevention through environmental design. "It’s a well-known concept in policing and crime prevention circles, but less well understood among architects and planners," Scott said.

A few of the students in the seminar are exploring problems relating to homeless/street people that have implications for design, Scott said.
