The UW Law School’s second annual Milwaukee Law Day on May 1, 2008, brought approximately 150 people together at Discovery World in downtown Milwaukee for a high-energy gathering of legal professionals with a common Law School background. Thirty members of the law faculty and administration joined Dean Ken Davis in hosting Milwaukee area alumni from a wide range of professional settings.
At the event, Dean Davis took the opportunity to introduce the newest member of the Law School administrative team, Abby Sanford Capper, Director of Development for the Law School. Davis also re-introduced Assistant Dean for External Affairs Carolyn Lazar Butler ‘79, telling the group that Butler has been charged with working as a "matchmaker" between alumni and faculty who share research interests and might work together on reality-based projects.
Comments from alumni who attended included appreciation for the chance to network and socialize with other professionals in their geographical or practice areas. Many noted the welcome opportunity to touch base with faculty – their own professors from law school days and other faculty whose substantive fields are currently coinciding with their own.
"The setting was lovely, the food was great, and the energy was high," noted one alum. "A lot of good communicating was going on."
