Three University of Wisconsin Law School students distinguished themselves in participation at the inaugural session of FDI Moot, the Foreign Direct Investment International Moot Competition, held in Boston in October 2008.

Students Erin Ehlke 3L, Anu Chudasama 2L, and Zhi-Xiang (Alex) Oh 2L wrote briefs ("memoranda") and conducted oral arguments on cutting-edge issues in the international law governing investor-state arbitrations.

The Wisconsin students won the award for Best Respondent’s Memorandum, one of only two writing awards. Their winning memorandum will be published by Oxford University Press in an upcoming volume.

A total of 20 teams from around the world competed in the 2008 orals.

Law School Professor Jason Yackee, who coached the three students and accompanied them to the competition, noted, "This is a very young and very difficult area of international law. I’m happy to report that our students did exceptionally well against very stiff competition. I am very proud of the students’ performance."

Next year, FDI Moot will be held in Germany.
