The University of Wisconsin Law School Mock Trial Team took Second Place at the national California Attorneys for Criminal Justice (CACJ) Mock Trial Tournament October 16-18, 2008, in Los Angeles.
The team of Erica Christian, Sam Kidd, Scott Colom, and Andrew Rima qualified for the semi-final round as the number one seed, a first for UW, and lost to Northwestern in the final round by one point. This competition marked UW’s best-ever finish at a national mock trial competition.
An additional honor went to teammate Sam Kidd, who was named Best Advocate for the entire competition, which involved 120 law students. The competition drew 30 teams from law schools across the country, including Stanford, UCLA, Pepperdine, Florida State, and Massachusetts.
UW Law School’s team of Andrew Wier, Erick Tyrone, Jill Smith, and Kristen Lonergan competed aggressively and were commended by judges for their outstanding performances.
The Wisconsin teams were coached by Rhonda Lanford (Habush Habush & Rottier) and Ellen Berz (State Public Defender), both members of the adjunct faculty.
The UW Mock Trial program is funded in large part by the generosity of attorney Robert Habush (UW Law School Class of 1961).
