Peter C. Carstensen, the University of Wisconsin Law School’s George C. Young-Bascom Professor of Law, is the co-editor of the newly published book Competition Policy and Merger Analysis in Deregulated and Newly Competitive Industries (Edward Elgar Publishing, Glocestershire, UK). Carstensen’s co-editor is Professor Susan Beth Farmer of Dickinson Law School at Pennsylvania State University.

In addition to co-editing the book, Carstensen wrote the chapter on airline mergers. The other U.S. industries covered are electricity, natural gas, telecommunications, railroads, hospitals, and banking. Each chapter was written by a recognized expert on the industry under examination.

Also included is a comparison of the European Union’s experience in attempting to bring about competition in the energy, finance, and airline industries.

Carstensen also wrote the book’s concluding chapter, "Reflections on mergers and competition in formerly regulated industries."
