University of Wisconsin Law School student Karen Siettmann has been named the 2009 Public Interest Law Student of the Year by the Wisconsin Bar Association.

The award recognizes Siettmann's contributions to the National Lawyer's Guild, Student Hurricane Network, UW Law School Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF), and Pro Bono Partnership Project, among other public interest work.

Siettmann was chosen for “boundless commitment to growing opportunities for students interested in public interest work” and for “making the Law School a better place for students who want to practice public interest law, either upon graduation or as part of a pro bono commitment in private practice.”

Siettmann, who is currently completing her third year of law school, will be recognized for the honor at the Law School’s Honors and Awards Ceremony on May 14, 2009.
