Justice-in-Residence Louis Butler of the University of Wisconsin Law School has been named a recipient of the inaugural 2009 Heroes Among Us Community Leadership Award, to be conferred in Milwaukee on February 22, 2009 by Mercy Memorial Church and the Youth Ambassadors of Hope.
“We believe that Justice Butler exemplifies the integrity, academic and professional achievement, and commitment to social justice that is so critical to the advancement and transformation of the African American Community,” commented James Ferguson II, Chairman of the Joint Committee on Special Projects for the two organizations sponsoring the award. “His leadership and great contributions to our society led to his becoming the first African American to occupy a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.”
Ferguson added, “Justice Butler has been a significant asset and figure of inspiration in the African American community.”
