The Wisconsin Law Review has announced the selection of its Symposium for 2009-2010: "New Governance and the Transformation of Law: Promoting Innovation and Accountability in Reform," an international conference hosted by Professors Lisa Alexander, Louise Trubek, and David Trubek.
The Symposium will be held November 19-21, 2009, on the UW-Madison campus, co-sponsored by the University of Wisconsin Law School, the UW-Madison's European Union Center of Excellence (EUCE), and the Centre for Law and Governance in Europe of University College, London.
Conference participants will examine the nature and extent to which new governance processes may transform traditional areas of law, and debate the broader implications of new governance for the theory and practice of law. Topics include: the balance between rights and regulation, the role of courts and alternative dispute resolution in guaranteeing participation and accountability, institutions that create norms both domestically and internationally and the relationship between the two, the role of lawyers in transforming governance frameworks, and the relationship between micro-level action and macro-governance.
Conference participants will include Nan Hunter of Georgetown Law School, Robert Ahdieh of Emory Law School, Nestor Davidson of Colorado Law School, Jason Solomon of the University of Georgia Law School, Amy Cohen of Ohio State Law School, Wendy Bach of CUNY Law School, Lisa Bingham of the Indiana School of Public Affairs, Katherine Young of the Harvard Law School S.J.D. program, David Coen and Diamond Ashigabor from University College London, Mark Dawson from the European Union Institute, and Poul Kjaer from Frankfurt.
Consistent with Wisconsin's dedication to integrative pedagogy, Professor David Trubek will offer a seminar in the fall semester of 2009 to complement the conference: “Selected Problems in Jurisprudence: New Governance and the Transformation of Law.”
