Recently, members of the University of Wisconsin Law School Mock Trial program honored students for outstanding performances in 2018-19 and elected the 2019-20 executive board. Kelly Hays received the Habush Habush & Rottier Outstanding Trial Advocacy Award. Kelly served as president for the 2018-19 academic year and competed this last February in the TYLA Mock Trial competition.
Other students honored for outstanding performances include:
- Bill Grau, Kelly Hays, Kevin Smith and Vanja Pemac, who received the Susan Steingass Outstanding Trial Advocacy Award
- Rachel Dykema and Michael Staskunas, who were recognized for their tireless effort in organizing the Mock Trial tryouts
Additionally, members elected Jared Gjertson as president for the 2019-20 academic year. Jared will be a third-year law student this fall.
Other students elected to the Mock Trial executive board include:
- Jacob Alonzo and Monica Fallon, vice presidents of membership
- Hannah Chelimsky, vice president of outreach
- Tyler Holloway, vice president of competition logistics
The Mock Trial program is led by Professor Kim Peterson, with local attorneys serving as coaches. This year’s coaches include Roger Flores, Brandon Flugar, Matthew Van Keulen, Sam Weisgarber, and Mario White. The Law School’s Mock Trial program is nationally recognized for excellence in trial advocacy. Team members participate in both civil and criminal trial competitions around the country.
