We're happy to announce that Eric Huston has won the Best Brief Award for the 2006 Legal Research and Writing class. The other four finalists were Kate Botham, Sarah Germonprez, Daniel Kuehn, and Chris Watson. Mr. Huston will receive a plaque from Dean Davis and Director Susan Steingass in honor of this achievement. The process leading to Ms. Huston's selection involved three separate evaluation stages. First, the teacher from each Legal Research and Writing section selected the best brief written in that section. These briefs were then reviewed and ranked by three prominent Wisconsin lawyers. The five briefs receiving the highest overall rankings were then reviewed independently by Law Professors Allison Christians, Arhur McEvoy and David Schwartz. The best brief was determined based on their cumulative rankings. This is a significant achievement not only for the winner and other finalists, but also for all those chosen by their Legal Research and Writing instructor for writing the best brief in their class. In this day and age when writing and analysis are the qualities most coveted by judges, lawyers and others, this award has great significance.
