Biography

Robert A, Schnur is currently Of Counsel to the Milwaukee-based law firm of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, having served as a tax partner at that firm in its Milwaukee and Madison offices.  He received an undergraduate degree with honors in Economics from Cornell University and a law degree from Harvard Law School.  He is admitted to practice in Wisconsin and Illinois.   

Mr. Schnur served two terms as the chair of the Wisconsin Bar Association Tax Section and is a former editor of the Wisconsin Tax News.  He was elected as a Fellow in the American College of Tax Counsel, is listed (most recently in 2024) in The Best Lawyers in America, published by Woodward/White, Inc. and has been named by Milwaukee Magazine as one of the best lawyers in Milwaukee. 

Mr. Schnur has lectured frequently on tax subjects throughout the country and is the author or co-author of various articles and books on tax subjects.  He began in 1988 to teach various tax subjects as an adjunct at the University of Wisconsin Law School and, in 2003 and again in 2023, he received the Stolper Award as the most outstanding member of the Wisconsin Law School’s adjunct instructional staff.  From 2006-2012, Mr. Schnur taught tax law as a Visiting Adjunct Professor of Tax Law at Cornell Law School and, in the Fall of 2012, he returned to teach tax courses at Wisconsin Law.
