About Madison
As the state capital, Madison is home to the Supreme Court of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, and various state and federal government agencies, all within walking distance from UW Law.
Wisconsin is an easy drive or bus ride from Chicago or Minneapolis, and major airlines serve both Madison and Milwaukee with frequent flights to and from the major hubs.

Prospective Student & Applicant Visits
For students who have not yet applied -OR- those who have applied and are awaiting an admission decision:
During the Fall 2026 term, prospective students and applicants are invited to join us on select dates for a presentation/Q&A, tour of the Law Building, and optional class visit.
To schedule your prospective student/applicant visit, please email us at admissions@law.wisc.edu and include up to three dates (in order of preference) that you are available to visit based on the options below.
Prospective student/applicant visit requests outside of the dates/times listed below are subject to availability. To best accommodate your visit request, please schedule at least one week ahead of your desired visit date.

Admitted Student Visits
For students who have been admitted to the University of Wisconsin Law School:
Our admitted student visits are typically offered Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM (CT), and include:
- A 15-minute one-on-one meeting with an admissions counselor,
- A 1-hour tour of the Law Building with a Student Ambassador, and
- An optional class visit (unavailable on Fridays, holiday breaks, and during the exam period).
To schedule your admitted student visit, please send us an email at admissions@law.wisc.edu and indicate whether you would like a class visit and provide up to three dates that you are available to visit. To best accommodate your visit request, please schedule at least one week ahead of your desired visit date.
Waitlisted Applicants
For students who have applied to the University of Wisconsin Law School and are currently in “Waitlist” status:
Waitlisted applicants are encouraged to schedule a virtual meeting with one of our admissions counselors to answer any waitlist questions you may have.
We do not currently offer in-person visits to our waitlisted applicants.
Group Visits
For student groups interested in visiting/touring the University of Wisconsin Law School:
We can typically accommodate a group visit request for Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM (CT). Your visit will include an admissions presentation/Q&A and tour of the Law Building. Please be advised that we are unable to accommodate a group class visit.
To schedule a group visit, please email us at admissions@law.wisc.edu and include the date/time you wish to visit and the approximate group size. Please schedule at least two weeks ahead of your desired visit date.

Traveling by Plane
Dane County Regional Airport (MSN), on Madison's northeast side, provides regional and national air service to and from Madison. Airlines that serve the Dane County Regional Airport »
Travelers may also fly to Chicago (ORD or MDW) or Milwaukee (MKE) and connect with bus service at the airport.
Cabs are readily available for service to campus and downtown, and many hotels offer shuttle service.
Traveling by Bus
The Greyhound/Badger depot is located several blocks from the eastern edge of campus:
The Van Galder Bus Company also provides daily round-trip service between campus and Chicago's O'Hare Airport as well as the Chicago downtown Amtrak station.

Traveling by Car & Suggested Routes
Madison is located in south central Wisconsin and is accessible via several major highways.
Time to Madison from nearby major cities:
- 1.5 hour drive from Milwaukee (via Interstate 94)
- 2.5 hour drive from Chicago (via Interstate 90)
- 4.5 hour drive from Minneapolis/St. Paul (via Interstate 94)
- 2 hour drive from Dubuque (via US 151)

If traveling from West or East of Madison:
- I 39/90/94 exit 142A (Hwy 12)
- Continue to Exit US-151 N/ Park St exit, EXIT 261A-B,
- Continue on Park St 2.7 miles to Lathrop St.
If traveling from South of Madison:
- I 39/90 to exit 142A(Hwy 12)
- Continue to Exit US-151 N/ Park St exit, EXIT 261A-B,
- Continue on Park St 2.7 miles to Lathrop St.
