About Madison

As the state capital, Madison is home to the Supreme Court of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, and various state and federal government agencies, all within walking distance from UW Law. 

Wisconsin is an easy drive or bus ride from Chicago or Minneapolis, and major airlines serve both Madison and Milwaukee with frequent flights to and from the major hubs.

Prospective Student Visits

For students who have not yet applied to the University of Wisconsin Law School

During the Spring 2025 term, prospective students are invited to join us on select Friday mornings for a presentation/Q&A and tour of the Law Building.  We are unfortunately unable to offer class visits to our prospective students this semester.  To schedule your prospective student visit, please email us at admissions@law.wisc.edu and include up to three dates (in order of preference) that you are available to visit based on the drop-down options below.

Friday Morning Visit (9:00 - 10:15 AM)

Note:  Prospective Student Visits will take a hiatus in April and May and resume in June.


Applicant Visits

For students who have applied to the University of Wisconsin Law School and are awaiting an admission decision

Our Applicant Visits are typically offered Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM (CT), and include:

  • A 30-minute one-on-one meeting with an admissions counselor, and
  • A tour of the Law Building with one of our Student Ambassadors.

To schedule your Applicant Visit, please email us at admissions@law.wisc.edu and include up to three dates that you are available to visit.  To best accommodate your visit request, please schedule at least one week ahead of your desired visit date.


Admitted Student Visits

For students who have been admitted to the University of Wisconsin Law School

Our admitted student visits include:

  • A 30-minute one-on-one meeting with an admissions counselor,
  • A tour of the Law Building with one of our Student Ambassadors, and
  • An optional class visit. 

If you elect to do a class visit with your Admitted Student Visit, available visit days/times are as follows:

  • Mondays @ 11:30 AM (CT)
  • Tuesdays @ 8:15 AM, 11:30 AM, or 2:00 PM (CT)
  • Wednesdays @ 11:30 AM (CT)
  • Thursdays @ 8:15 AM, 11:30 AM, or 2:00 PM (CT)
  • Note that class visits are unavailable on Fridays, and some blackout dates apply.

If you elect not to do a class visit, we can typically accommodate a visit request for Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (CT).

To schedule your Admitted Student Visit, please email us at admissions@law.wisc.edu and indicate whether or not you would like a class visit and provide up to three dates that you are available to visit.  To best accommodate your visit request, please schedule at least one week ahead of your desired visit date.


Group Visits

To schedule a group visit, please email us at admissions@law.wisc.edu and include the date/time you wish to visit and the approximate group size. Your visit will include an admissions presentation/Q&A and tour of the Law Building. Please be advised that we are unable to accommodate a group class visit. Please schedule at least two weeks ahead of your desired visit date.
