We are pleased to announce the 5th annual outreach workshop series on the theme Global Legal Issues and Wisconsin, sponsored by Global Legal Studies Center (GLS) and Center for World Affairs and the Global Economy (WAGE) and co-sponsored by the International Practice Section, State Bar of Wisconsin.

The workshops, which explore the legal and policy implications of global legal issues on Wisconsin, are open to Wisconsin attorneys, policy makers, state agencies, civil society groups and others.

2011 Workshops

This year's workshops focus on: renewable energy, global health law, and emerging economies. Participants are welcome to register for one or more workshops. Detailed descriptions are below.

Workshop 1: Renewable Energy and WI
Wednesday, April 13, 2011

The best long-term alternative to fossil fuels is to develop renewable sources of energy, moving away from sources that contribute to climate change. This workshop looks at what Wisconsin has done to meet this challenge from several perspectives including the current debate on biofuels and food security.

Workshop 2: Global Health Law and WI

No country or state would be spared if a global health pandemic breaks out. This workshop looks at how the WHO responds to pandemics, the experience of a practitioner, recent health care law reforms, and perspectives on the Legislative Study Committee on Health Care Reform.

It is no secret that the global economic structure is changing, with several “developing” countries playing an important role in the global market. While UW-Madison has several country initiatives, this project will look at these emerging economies in a holistic manner.
