After spending four years in prison for a crime he did not commit, Davonn Robinson, of Milwaukee, has been released because of the work of the Wisconsin Innocence Project.

On September 23, the Milwaukee County Circuit Court vacated Robinson's conviction, and the State promptly dismissed all charges against him.

In May 2006, Robinson was convicted of sexually assaulting a child based on the testimony of two children.  Since then, both witnesses have recanted, saying that their mother had beaten them with an electrical cord until they agreed to make the false accusations.  The mother subsequently was convicted of child abuse, and the children voluntarily came forward with the truth.

Wisconsin Innocence Project faculty and students were on hand on September 23 to walk Robinson out of prison and to freedom.
