Google Scholar is a wonderful resource for quickly finding and connecting to articles as well as case law. You can search directly by entering a citation or you can use the more typical natural language search terms that you would use with regular Google and be connected to material that is relevant to your search terms. By following the steps below you can connect your student account so that you can skip the login process once you find what you are looking for. Google Scholar will also allow you to quickly download PDFs directly from the search results.
The steps below will walk you through connecting your NetID to Google Scholar.
- Start at the UW-Madison Libraries homepage, choose “Databases” from the “Catalog” drop-down menu.
- Select the “Top 10 Databases” link below the search box.
- Select Google Scholar from the list.
- You will be prompted to sign in with your NetID and password.
- Once you have logged in, you will be redirected to the Google Scholar search page.
To set Library links:
- Select the three lines in the upper left corner of the Google Scholar search page.
- Select “Settings”
- Select “Library links”
- Search for: Madison
- Check “University of Wisconsin-Madison-Find It @ UW-Madison” and “UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MADISON – ProQuest Fulltext”
- Select “Save”
After you do a search in Google Scholar, you will see a “Find It at UW-Madison” link to the right of most articles. You can use this link to access the full text of the article or case law through a UW-Madison journal subscription or, if the article is not available online, to request a copy through Interlibrary Loan.
