Need a book, article, or media item that the Law Library, or any Library on campus, does not have? Interlibrary Loan (ILL) has you covered. This service, free for students and faculty, lets you borrow items (articles, books, or just a chapter from a book) from other libraries when they’re not available locally.

How to Request

Visit the ILL Portal: https://www.library.wisc.edu/borrow-request/interlibrary-loan/
Log in with your NetID: Access the ILLiad system to manage requests.
Choose your item type: Books, articles, chapters, media, dissertations.
Fill out the form: Include as many details as possible for faster processing.
Track your request: Get email updates and access digital items via ILLiad.

Delivery Time & Pickup

Articles/chapters: Usually within 1–3 days (PDF). Sometimes much faster!
Books/media: Typically 5–10 business days.
Pickup: Choose your preferred library location; digital items go straight to your email.

Quick Tips

Search UW Libraries first to avoid duplicate requests.
Use complete citations for speedier service.
Return items on time to maintain borrowing privileges.

Why It Matters
ILL expands your access to global collections, helping you dive deeper into research or explore new topics. It’s fast, free, and easy—just a few clicks away.
