Biography

Arti Walker-Peddakotla is a William H. Hastie Fellow at University of Wisconsin Law School. Their scholarship focuses on Abolition and Movement law, Municipal and State law, and Tech and privacy law.

Prior to receiving the Hastie Fellowship, Walker-Peddakotla was a 2022 Soros Justice Fellow where they researched abolitionist movements at the local level, including the use of cybersurvillence technologies by local governments and their impact on the local prison-industrial complex. Walker-Peddakotla served in local elected office from 2019-2022 as an Oak Park Village Trustee. 

Walker-Peddakotla received their J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where they co-created and co-taught the LAW156: Abolition and Movement Lawyering course. They received an M.S. in Microbiology and Immunology from Loyola University of Chicago, and received their B.S. in Biology from Grand Valley State University. Walker-Peddakotla is a U.S. Army veteran.

  • Arti Walker-Peddakotla presented their paper "The Obfuscation of Surveillance" and presented the "From Scholarship to Policy: The Relationship Between Scholars and Policymakers" panel at the Democracy Works In Progress conference at Michigan State University on April 11, 2025.
