Biography

Elizabeth Manriquez is the Head of Reference & Scholarly Support at the University of Wisconsin Law School Library.  In this role, she supervises an incredible team of reference librarians, oversees project planning for the UW Law School Digital Repository and works with faculty to improve the discoverability of their scholarship.  Elizabeth is always on the hunt for new collections and content featuring UW Law and the greater Wisconsin legal community, so please contact her if you have ideas!

Before joining the University of Wisconsin, Elizabeth was a Research Librarian and Assistant Professor of Law at the Wiener-Rogers Law Library at the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada – Las Vegas.  While there, she taught Advanced Legal Research – Intellectual Property.

While attending the University of Washington, Elizabeth received the Earl Borgeson Research Award in Law Librarianship for her article on linked data technologies in law libraries.

Elizabeth has a strong interest in indexing and served on the Indexing of Periodical Literature Committee of the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) until July 2022. She also served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Library Systems & Resource Discovery Special Interest Section (LSRD-SIS) of AALL and as a Member-At-Large for the Law Repositories Caucus of AALL.  She is the Past President of our regional chapter of AALL, the Law Libriarians Association of Wisconsin, and Vice Chair of AALL Special Interest Section Legal Information Services to the Public.

In her spare time, Elizabeth enjoys traveling, attending concerts, and spending time with her two young daughters.

Activities

  • Elizabeth Manriquez, along with podcaster Mike Duncan, presented "Playing by Different Rules: Exploring Baseball's Exceptional Antitrust Status" during the 35th Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, on May 30, 2024.

  • Elizabeth Manriquez has entered a three-year rotation of service on the Legal Information Services to the Public Special Interest Section Executive Board. Manriquez will serve first as vice chair, then chair and finally past-chair. The mission of the special interest section is to improve access to legal information and promote legal information services to the public.

  • Elizabeth Manriquez presented "Marketing Sustainable Mid-Size Institutional Repositories with No Pennies" during the American Association of Law Libraries Annual Meeting on July 17, 2022. 

  • Elizabeth Manriquez published "Legal Research 101: Securities Law Resources" in the May 18, 2022, edition of "InsideTrack," the bi-weekly newsletter of the State Bar of Wisconsin. Read the article, which provides a list of resources on securities law and tips on how to stay current in this rapidly changing area of law.

  • Elizabeth Manriquez presented "Metadata, SEO and Other Pun Things: Best Practices for Maximizing Discoverability of Faculty Scholarship" during the How It Started/How It's Going Conference sponsored by the Law Repositories Caucus of AALL on April 28, 2022. This presentation provided best practices for librarians beginning to offer scholarly communications assistance to their faculty and tips for maximizing discoverability. 

  • Elizabeth Manriquez presented "DOI Demystified" during the How It Started/How It's Going Conference sponsored by the Law Repositories Caucus of AALL on April 27, 2022. The presentation featured a panel of librarians offering workflows, tips, and answering questions about bringing DOIs to their institutions.

  • Bonnie Shucha and Liz Manriquez presented on "Increasing Library Impact by Promoting Faculty Scholarly Impact" for the American Association of Law Libraries on July 18, 2022. Shucha and Manriquez participated in a panel discussion on how law librarians can help faculty discover and increase the impact of their scholarship, and in doing so, increase the library's impact by evolving and expanding their scholarly visibility programs.

  • Elizabeth Manriquez has been named vice president of the Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin (LLAW), the regional chapter of the American Association of Law Librarians. This is a three-year term in which Manriquez will serve as vice president, then president, then past president.

  • Liz Manriquez has been selected to attend the 2022 American Association of Law Librarians (AALL) Leadership Academy taking place March 31-April 1.

  • Elizabeth Manriquez presented "How Can I Advise Without Giving Advice?" during the Wisconsin Library Association 2021 Annual Conference on Nov. 19. 

  • Kris Turner published a chapter on Faculty Services in "Introduction to Law Librarianship," an open access textbook designed to educate and train law librarians as the profession changes and develops. The chapter was co-authored with Liz Manriquez and two other librarians – one from Georgia and one from the University of Denver.
