Grace Kube is a co-director of the Eviction Defense Clinic (EDC) at the University of Wisconsin Law School where she teaches second- and third-year law students to represent individuals facing eviction in court. One guiding principle in EDC is that students assume full responsibility for handling individual client cases from the initial interview through settlement or an administrative or court hearing. Grace provides the educational tools, guidance, and support, but students are expected to apply their dedication, lawyering skills, and ethical conduct to their cases. Grace believes that the full weight of this responsibility creates the conditions for the most enduring and meaningful learning to occur, and she structures her pedagogical and legal practice around this principle.

Grace has always been passionate about equal justice and housing rights. Fresh out of law school, she worked on the border in Brownsville, Texas for Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) as a Migrant Farmworker Staff Attorney. During her time at TRLA, she negotiated a settlement with the State of Texas that required Texas to test all private well water in migrant farmworker housing camps. Following her time in Texas, Grace returned home to Wisconsin and worked as a staff attorney for Legal Action of Wisconsin out of their La Crosse office. She served ten mostly rural counties in a variety of issues, but focused on rental housing law.

  • Grace Kube presented "Rental Housing Basics" during the Immigration Resource Fair on Nov. 4, 2022. The purpose was to give attendees a foundational understanding of their rights as renters as well as provide individual consultations as necessary.

  • Grace Kube presented "The Trick with Trauma" during the Mid-Atlantic Clinical Conference Feb. 4, 2023.
