Biography
Nyamagaga Gondwe is an Assistant Professor of Tax Law at the University of Wisconsin Law School where she teaches Tax I (Federal Income Taxation) and Tax II (Business Taxation). She is a scholar of economic justice, race and the law, and tax policy.
Prior to her appointment at Wisconsin, Nyamagaga was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Tax at NYU School of Law from 2020 to 2022. As a VAP, Nyamagaga served as an Assistant Editor on the Tax Law Review, and taught tax policy, taxation of property transactions, and corporate tax to J.D. and L.L.M. students.
Nyamagaga received her A.B. in African American Studies and Linguistics from Harvard College in 2013. After college, she taught high school math in Seaford, Delaware as part of the Teach for America program. Following her time in Teach for America, Nyamagaga studied at Yale Law School where she was a 1L Student Representative (2015-16), President of BLSA (2016-17), and an editor on the Yale Law Journal (2016-18). She received her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2018 and currently serves on the Yale Law School Alumni Executive Committee.
After completing her J.D., Nyamagaga clerked for the Honorable Jeffery A. Meyer at the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut from 2018 to 2019. She then worked as an associate in the tax group at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP, in Washington, D.C. Nyamagaga is a member of the D.C. Bar Association.
