Biography
Bonnie Shucha is the Associate Dean for Library and Information Services and Director of the Law Library at the UW Law School. She oversees library operations and guides the Law Library team in fostering research and learning across the Law School community and beyond. She received her J.D. from the UW Law School, a Masters of Library & Information Science and M.A. in History from UW-Milwaukee, and a B.A. in History from UW-Eau Claire.
Dean Shucha has presented and published on numerous topics including legal research, legal technology and generative AI, scholarly visibility, Tribal law, and women’s history. She is also the creator and author of the UW Law Library blog, WisBlawg, which provides legal research and tech information with an emphasis on Wisconsin.
She is an active member of the American Association of Law Libraries where she served as special interest section and caucus leader. She is also a past president of the Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin. She is a member and former chair of the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Communications Committee and Wisconsin Lawyer editorial board.
Dean Shucha co-teaches Advanced Legal Research. In this simulation course, students gain practical, hands-on experience in approaching, conducting, and presenting research in a practice setting.

Bonnie Shucha was the coordinator and also a panelist, presenting "Teaching the Ethical and Effective Use of Generative AI to Students, Faculty, Practitioners, Judges and Beyond" during a joint Mid-America Association of Law Libraries/Ohio Regional Association of Law Libraries Annual Meeting in Cleveland, Ohio, on Oct. 23, 2025.
Kris Turner and Bonnie Shucha presented "Prompting Success for Law Firms: Tips for Engineering Effective Prompts to Get the Most Out of AI" during the Wisconsin Solo and Small Firm Conference on Oct. 17, 2025.
Bonnie Shucha and Amanda White Eagle presented "Artificial Intelligence: Generative AI in the Law & in Tribal Courts" during the National American Indian Court Judges Association Annual Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, on Oct. 15, 2025.
- Bonnie Shucha and Kristopher Turner presented the full-day workshop "GenerativeAI: What it is, What it does, Its Effect on the Legal Profession, and What Appellate Judges Need to Know," for the Wisconsin Court of Appeals and Supreme Court judges & staff on September 30, 2025.
Bonnie Schucha was appointed to the Wisconsin Court System Artificial Intelligence Committee in October 2025.
The article "Integrating Tribal Law into the Legal Research and Writing Curriculum,” co-authored by Bonnie Shucha, received two awards from the American Association of Law Libraries: the Outstanding Article - Long Form Award and the Paul Gatz RIPS-SIS Publication Award.

Bonnie Shucha was elected vice chair/chair elect of the Mid-America Law Library Consortium. Her two-year term began Jan. 1, 2025, and will be followed by two years as chair.

Bonnie Shucha and Liz Manriquez presented on "Increasing Library Impact by Promoting Faculty Scholarly Impact" for the American Association of Law Libraries on July 18, 2022. Shucha and Manriquez participated in a panel discussion on how law librarians can help faculty discover and increase the impact of their scholarship, and in doing so, increase the library's impact by evolving and expanding their scholarly visibility programs.
