Biography
Raffi is a Clinical Teaching Fellow who works at the nexus of criminal law and immigration. She instructs students in the Immigrant Justice Clinic, largely advocating for detained noncitizens, as well as the Federal Appeals Project, where she works with law students to litigate clients' criminal appeals in the 7th Circuit and secure other federal post-conviction relief.
Raffi previously worked as a trial attorney at the Federal Defenders of San Diego. She provided client-centered representation to people charged with immigration violations, drug trafficking, firearm possession, wire fraud, and other federal offenses. Raffi also has experience litigating complex class actions as a plaintiff's attorney, and throughout law school at the ACLU of Southern California's Immigrants' Rights Project. Her research and projects concern the criminalization of immigration, policing in the digital age, and youth in the criminal legal system.
Raffi obtained her B.A. from Yale University and her J.D. from U.C. Berkeley School of Law. Following law school, Raffi clerked for the Honorable Justice Daniel E. Winfree of the Alaska Supreme Court and the Honorable Barry Ted Moskowitz, then Chief Judge for the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of California.
